Holston High School | Students Spruce Up Shelters Along Appalachian Trail

Students posing for a group picture. While many of their classmates were fast asleep, members of Holston High School’s Key Club recently greeted their Saturday morning on the Appalachian Trail.

A crew of 13 high school students was invited by members of the Mount Rogers Appalachian Trail Club to paint and spruce up one of the many shelters along the Appalachian Trail near Damascus. The students were accompanied by six trail club members and Steve Ahn, faculty adviser for the Key Club, on Sept. 22, National Public Lands Day, an annual signature event of the National Environmental Education Foundation that promotes both popular enjoyment and volunteer conservation of public lands.
