Holston High School Students Step In Time with a Production of Mary Poppins
Mon, June 25, 2018
Months of hard work came to a conclusion when Holston High School students put on their Spring Musical on March 23rd and 24th. Holston’s Chorus students began planning before the Christmas break and started practicing shortly after they returned in the second semester.
Their hard work bore fruit which was manifest in the performance of Mary Poppins. The students discovered that the stage play is quite different from the Disney movie in many ways. There are songs in this version that are not in the movie, including the inspiring Anything Can Happen, and the poignant Being Mrs. Banks. The favorites are still in the stage version however, such as Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Jolly Holiday. Lead students in the play included Lauren W. as Mary Poppins, Jake S. as Bert, Jacob B. as Mr. Banks, Jenna G. as Mrs. Banks, Jessica L. as Miss Andrew, and Hanna D. as Mrs. Brill and the Bird Woman. Two students from Rhea Valley Elementary played lead roles as the Banks children – Zyleigh H. and Maryn M. For Lauren, who had the lead as Mary, the musical was the culminating event for her years of work with the Chorus.
The play came together beautifully, and audience members as well as staff agreed that all of the students performed exceptionally well in their roles. The Choral Department is appreciative of the donations of clothing and items used for props that were donated by the faculty and community members. Holston High School is very proud of these students for their talent, their dedication, and their incredible work ethic.
