HPES 4th Grade Musters in Abingdon
Thu, October 9, 2014
Muster means a call to arms or a gathering of troops. On September 24, High Point fourth grade students joined other students from the area at the Abingdon Muster Grounds. This is the site where in 1780 men from the Washington Country area gathered together for the campaign to Kings Mountain.
There efforts resulted in an important patriot victory during the American Revolutionary War. The students spent the day learning important 18th century skills such as blacksmithing, campfire cooking, weaving, and bayonet drills. The students ended their day by marching part of the route the militia men marched toward Kings Mountain.
