HPES Flag of Freedom

A girl standing in front of the United States Flag smiling. The Black’s Fort Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution provides an opportunity for Washington County fourth-grade students to share their feelings about the United States Flag.

This year, 339 entries were received from students across the county, and out of those, our very own Katelyn M. from High Point Elementary brought home first place.  Her paper focused on the beliefs she holds dear which include: having the right to make choices, supporting our soldiers, and praising our ancestors that helped shape our country.  Katelyn is looking forward to sharing her essay on March 15, 2016 at the Abingdon Senior Center in Abingdon, VA.  Her beliefs and positive attitude will continue to guide her to a successful future.
