HPES Marshmallow Math!
Thu, September 1, 2016
4th Grade students at HPES in Mrs. Terry’s math class are learning about place value! Students participated in a hands on learning activity using marshmallows, fruit loops and coffee stirrers to show different place values.
Numbers were read to the students and they were asked to create those numbers using the different materials that signified different categories. After creating, students would write the numbers in word form. While creating, students got in groups and discussed what they created with each other. Once the activity was completed, students were able to eat their math, or in this case marshmallows and fruit loops! Sounds like a great formative assessment activity!
