Students enjoyed a wide variety of tunes showcasing the area's musical roots in the Scots-Irish immigration, the evolution of local music during the Civil War, and the continued influence of Appalachian music in both the rock and country music of today.  The artists also interspersed musical performances with brief history lessons and invited students up on stage to try out some traditional instruments with the band (pictured from left: Daphne H., Sasha H., Jim Graybeal, and CanJoe John).  John S. Battle Senior Maggie M. even harmonized with guitarist Adam Graybeal as students learned about the history of coal mining through the Darrell Scott tune "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive."
