Patrick Henry High School | Future UAS Pilots in SWVA

A male student holding a remote control while standing.Dr. Kevin Hamed ,Tamara Lasley, and Eric Hoffman teamed up to teach Governor's School this past summer. The focus of the two week course was to inform and prepare students for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.

This course gave the students opportunities to visit several locations where drones are becoming  useful tools for research and up to date information used in many different applications. WCYB Weather Center, Tri-Cities Airport, Virginia Tech, and NASA Langley Research Center provided the students with real world applications specific to drone pilots. Toward the end of Governors School, Cody W. captured a title while competing against other students in an obstacle course competition. He is shown here flying his prize.
