Patrick Henry High School Natural Resource Class Learns About Alternative Energy

Several students stand around another student who is kneeling while holding a small solar panel. On December 11, 2014, Dan Swafford, Virginia Tech Extension Project Associate and retired agriculture teacher, visited Mr. Thayer’s Natural Resources I class and explained the importance of alternative energy sources. Students were able to demonstrate the proper angles for photovoltaic panels to obtain the most energy.

Another source of energy discussed was the use of wind turbines and their future in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The lecture left the students with a better understanding of the importance of energy resources and how they can be effectively managed for future generations. Mr. Thayer followed up other potential biomass energy examples and questions.
