Rhea Valley Students Participate in Hour of Code
Mon, December 19, 2016
Fourth and fifth grade Rhea Valley Elementary students participated in the Hour of Code on December 7th and 9th. The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week which was December 5-11. It is a global initiative of Code.org dedicated to increasing the awareness and understanding of computer science. Millions of students from around the world participate in the event each year.
The Rhea Valley students watched a video from Code.org introducing their “Hour of Code” and were provided information about the field of computer science, and related educational requirements and careers. Students were then able to explore and create code for over an hour as they completed activities such as Minecraft, Star Wars and Frozen on the code.org website. The event sparked the curiosity of some students who were encouraged to visit the website on their own to explore the large number of resources and other activities.
