Spanning the Globe at AES

Globes made by students on display.Mrs. Roark’s class at Abingdon Elementary School recently completed their individual globes for several of their ASOL objectives in history. Each individual student made their own globe by creating the globe from the following materials:  newspaper, flour, water, and a balloon.

The process was very messy but lots of fun!!! Once our globes were created, the students individually painted their globes.  The students used yarn to identify the equator and prime meridian. The students glued the words and continents to identify all locations.  These objectives included identifying the four hemispheres, the seven continents, and the five oceans. The students are also using the globes to identify the European explorer’s explorations. This was a very fun project for our class. Next year, we plan on creating the solar system!
