Vocabulary Forest at Wallace Middle School

Two cheerleaders looking at a vocabulary project.Sandwiched between School Spirit Week and the  Rhythm & Roots Reunion in Bristol, Wallace Middle School eighth-graders created roots and affixes trees in English class.

Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. Hicks taught students how to turn simple paper bags into seasonal tree sculptures.  Then students chose roots, hunted for words that had their roots and affixes, and wrote them on die-cut maple leaves.  When students were finished naming their trees, a forest was created in the classroom so that families who attended Meet the Trojans Open House could marvel at students' ability to create festive vocabularTREES.
