Wallace Middle School | Gifted Group Attends 46th National Storytelling Festival

A group of students sitting in front of a brick building. On Friday, October 5, students in the gifted program at Wallace Middle spent the day listening to many wonderful storytellers at the National Storytelling Festival held in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

Students enjoyed listening to some old favorites like Bill Lepp and Diane Ferlatte, both sharing fun and energizing stories.  Storyteller Alton Chung delivered a passionate story reflecting his childhood growing up listening to stories of Hawaii, WWII Japanese- Americans, and Asian folktales.  Students listened to these and several of the other storytellers sharing the importance of oral language in cultures and histories. All of the storytellers shared different styles and perspectives which gave the students attending something to bring back and share with others.
