Washington County Career and Technical Education Center | Students Participate in Reality Fair

Several students are sitting at a table with a financial advisor.

Washington County Career and Technical Education Center seniors participated in a "Reality Check" Fair on 30 November. It was an interactive experience designed to provide hands-on, real-life situations with the many financial challenges young people face as they venture out on their own, after graduation.

This unique live simulation provides students with a career choice and starting salary – students complete a budget and make decisions to stay within their budget while paying for necessities such as housing, utilities, food, and transportation. Opportunities are presented to students along the way that required them to make decisions whether to purchase items to demonstrate the immediate effect that impulse spending can have on a budget. The result of the Reality Check Fair empowers students to develop skills to make sound financial decisions and prepares students to set themselves up for success for what’s ahead in the years to come.

Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make today a success!
