Washington County Schools Holds Annual Spelling Bee

On Tuesday, December 15, 2016 spelling bee winners from the seven elementary schools competed in the annual elementary school spellingbee.
School representatives were: Ben E.. (Abingdon Elementary), Lea J.. (Greendale Elementary), Keira L. (High Point Elementary), Belle D. (Meadowview Elementary), Hanah A. (Rhea Valley Elementary), Elanna M.. (Valley Institute Elementary), and Gabe H.. (Watauga Elementary). The spelling bee was held at Watauga Elementary School. Felicia Sikes, Coordinator of Extended Programs, Bailey Dotson, Washington County 4H Extension Agent and Ted Casler, Human Resources Manager, served as judges. Major Byron Ashbrook served as pronouncer. After 20 rounds and 86 words, Keira L. from High Point Elementary School was declared county champion, correctly spelling "prestidigitation" and "reveille". Gabe H.. from Watauga Elementary was the runner up. Keira is now eligible to move on to the Southern Appalachian Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held in Knoxville, TN in March. Congratulations to Keira and all of our school spelling bee champions.
