Washington County Schools Holds Annual Spelling Bee

On Wednesday, December 6, 2017 spelling bee winners from the seven elementary schools competed in the annual elementary school spelling bee.
School representatives were: Gage C. (Abingdon Elementary), Abby O. (Greendale Elementary), Aryana P. (High Point Elementary), Addison B. (Meadowview Elementary), Jesse D. (Rhea Valley Elementary), Aiden S. (Valley Institute Elementary), and Brenna G. (Watauga Elementary). The spelling bee was held at Abingdon Elementary School. Felicia Sikes, Coordinator of Gifted Education, Belinda Mullins, retired Middle Level Supervisor and Ted Casler, Human Resources Manager, served as judges. Major Byron Ashbrook of the Washington County Sheriff's Office served as pronouncer. After 22 rounds and 111 words, Brenna G. from Watauga Elementary School was declared county champion, correctly spelling "pecuniary" and "supercilious". Aiden S. from Valley Institute Elementary and Gage C. from Abingdon Elementary tied for runner up. Brenna is now eligible to move on to the Southern Appalachian Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held in Knoxville, TN in March. Congratulations to Brenna and all of our school spelling bee champions.
