The Washington County Title I Preschool Program helps to insure that children enter into Kindergarten ready to learn. Both small group and individualized instruction focus upon the development of the child as a whole. The program stresses learning to work and play with others and the development of early literacy skills. The program also provides a strong phonemic awareness base in at-risk children. Kindergarten readiness is further developed through early mathematics explorations, music and movement, art, scientific investigation, dramatic play, and indoor/outdoor activities.
Preschool children adjust to a daily routine, develop tolerance and respect for others, and learn to use school materials. Children who attend preschool adapt more quickly to kindergarten and experience greater success in the early grades. The school division maintains a preschool program in each elementary school for children who are four years old.
