Kindergarten had a busy month! We had several community helpers visit us to share what they do to help our communities each and every day. The kids enjoyed learning about various careers and then wrapped up the month with a Book Character Parade!
We would like to extend a big thank you to our community helpers who show up for our kindergarten students every year. We appreciate you!

First graders at Watauga Elementary School have been learning about different kinds of animals. As a culminating activity, each student picked an animal to learn more about them. They researched to discover what their animal eats, its habitat, and some interesting facts. Their curiosity and hard work showed how much first graders could discover when given the opportunity to explore.

💙 Happy Boss’s Day to our amazing Principal and Assistant Principal! Your leadership, compassion, and dedication make our school a place where students thrive and staff feel valued. Local children’s book author, Glen Thomason, is continuing the tradition of
reading his books to Watauga Elementary’s first graders. A new group of
students are being introduced to Thomason’s beloved character Duke the dog.
Not only does Thomason read his books to the children throughout the year, he
also speaks with them about the writing process.

Fourth grade scientists at Watauga Elementary have been busy practicing the scientific process, identifying variables, and collecting data! Students completed a tissue investigation to see which of three different brands of tissues absorbed the most liquid. In case you’re curious, the Member’s Mark brand was the conclusion they reached! They also collected qualitative and quantitative data in a lemon lab. They collected quantitative data using balance scales for mass, rulers for diameter, and graduated cylinders for liquid volume. They used their five senses to collect qualitative data. Tasting the lemon was the favorite part of the lab for most students!

Watauga Elementary would like to recognize the students that represented our school at the School Days at the Fair Talent Show. Kayode Frazier (5th grade) performed “ In the Hall of the Mountain King” and “ Third Movement from Classical Sonatina” on piano. Ellie Ellison, Juliette Farnum, and Mary Grace McReynolds (4th grade) performed a dance and tumble routine to “ We On Top”.

☀️💛 Our Watauga Wildcats are spreading kindness through our Bags of Sunshine campaign! 🌟

At Watauga, our students are nominated each week as World Changers—and we celebrate them with random weekly winners. But there’s one person who shows us what it means to be a World Changer every single day, all day long: our principal, Mrs. Nunley!
Through her leadership, kindness, and vision, Mrs. Nunley reminds us that changing the world starts right here in our school. She encourages us to be World-Class learners, Optimistic thinkers, Resilient problem-solvers, Leaders with character, and Determined students—because that’s what it means to be a Watauga Wildcat.
Thank you, Mrs. Nunley, for being our example and leading the way as the ultimate Watauga World Changer!
