Tobacco – After confirmation of the first violation, the athlete will be suspended immediately from one scheduled contest in the sport in which the athlete is a participant. If the student is not a participant during that sport season, the athlete will be suspended one game the next sport season in which he/she participates.

Alcohol and Drugs – After confirmation of the first violation, the athlete will be suspended for up to 90 school days from all VHSL activities for which he/she is a participant. If the athlete is not a participant during that sport season, the athlete will be suspended 20% of regular scheduled athletic event(s) the next sport(s) season in which he/she participates.
