Washington County Public Schools is proud to announce that John S. Battle High School Senior Arrow B.  has been appointed to serve on the Student Advisory Board for Governor Glenn Youngkin, alongside seven other students from across the Commonwealth. Arrow is also a student at the Washington County Career and Technical Center where he has served in multiple leadership roles. Arrow will represent Region 7, which covers every locality between Giles, Carroll, and Lee Counties. He will serve a term that expires June 30, 2024 as part of the inaugural group Student Advisors to Governor Youngkin. 

During his time at John S. Battle, Arrow has participated in several extracurricular activities. He has been a member, and key contributor, of both the Football and Wrestling teams. He is the current Homecoming King for 2023-2024 and was crowned Prom Prince for 2022-2023. Arrow has been a member of the FFA and 4H clubs.

Arrow is as also active at the Washington County Career and Technical Education Center, studying Welding, where he will earn his American Welding Society Welding Certification later this year. Before enrolling in Welding, he completed the Building Trades program in his Sophomore and Junior years making him a “Double Major” at the Career and Technical Center. Arrow and his SkillsUSA team placed 1st in the Teamwork’s SkillsUSA District competition which qualified them to participate in the State competition where they placed 3rd. Arrow has served three years as an Ambassador for the WCCTEC, was the President for SkillsUSA for 2022-2023, and is currently the Vice President for SkillsUSA for 2023-2024.

In addition to his active school schedule, Arrow worked for Bomax Equipment and Fabrication Company in Elkins, West Virginia, over the summer of 2023. He also enjoys spending time serving his community, hunting, riding dirt bikes, and working on his family’s long-horn cattle and goat farm. He plans to further his education in Trade and Industry, hoping to one day work as a welder or become a contractor after graduation. Obviously, Washington County Public Schools is proud of Arrow and we are grateful for his positive impact on our Division and community.
