On behalf of High Point Elementary School I would like to thank the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police for their assistance with the situation that led to High Point going on a soft lockdown for most of the school day today. They provided guidance and extra personnel to ensure our students and staff were safe. We greatly appreciate their expertise, professionalism, and collaboration. I would also like to thank the Administration at High Point Elementary for making decisions that erred on the side of student/staff safety and for communicating the status of the situation multiple times throughout the day to our parents. We will brief the situation with administration and law enforcement tomorrow to ensure that we continue best practices and improve in the areas that need adjustments. One of the early take aways is that we can communicate more efficiently by encouraging parents and stakeholders sign up for the Washington County App. Please visit this site (https://www.wcs.k12.va.us/article/1133965) for more information about this app and a link to download it. Again, thanks to everyone who helped keep our kids and staff safe, nothing we do is more important. If you have suggestions on how we can make our schools safer, please don't hesitate to share your ideas with us.

Just a reminder that Dr. Perrigan will be at John Battle High School this afternoon from 5:00-5:45 pm for a Meet and Greet with anyone who would like to stop by with questions or comments. This will be immediately prior to the Meet the Trojans Program.

HPES is in soft lockdown based on advisement by local law enforcement due to a search for an individual in the area. All students continue to be safe. Students are doing their normal indoor activities, and all exterior doors are secured and being monitored carefully.
If the individual is not located by the end of the day, HPES will dismiss in a modified manner which may increase car rider wait time and possibly the arrival of buses home. In addition, we will have an increase in law enforcement presence to ensure the safety of everyone. Thank you so much for your patience and for trusting us with your children.
